Es gibt Lieder, die stehen wir eine Generation, für eine Zeit, für Stimmungen. Ein echter Gute-Laune-Garant ist „Everybody wants to rule the World“ von Tears for Fears.

Die Nummer wurde 1985 von Roland Orzabal, Chris Hughes und Ian Stanley geschrieben. Curt Smith singt in diesem Stück mit.

Ich weiß nicht mehr wann, ich es zum ersten Mal gehört habe, aber in diesem Jahr dann wahrscheinlich gefühlt jeden Tag über einhundert Mal. Es war die Zeit des Walkman und der Pioneer-Anlage im Auto. Ich war Teil einer kleinen Werbeagentur in Berlin und das Lebensgefühl in diesem Sommer war einfach großartig. New Wave wurde immer wieder stark kritisiert und als Musikrichtung damals nicht ernst genommen, aber ich fand es großartig. Im Nachhinein eine tolle Dekade mit wichtigen Nummern. Pop as only Pop can do. Aber New Wave war durchaus dunkel – gerade auch Tears for Fears hatten auch ernstere, härtere Nummern. Zum Beispiel „Mothers Talk“ oder „Shout“ vom Album „Songs from the Big Chair“.

Aber EWTRTW war und ist für immer gute Laune. Weekend Mood.
